Report from Dorothee Holly, 1st Chairperson:
I was in South Africa in October and unfortunately have to inform you that we will not be able to realise the “Building a women’s shelter” project.
The project started with major, unforeseeable problems. We needed a new construction drawing, the building site was most likely unsuitable and the existing floor slab could not be used. In addition, we were unable to provide any documents as proof of official authorisations. Our gut feeling told us that it was better to stop the project.
Instead, we want to build another classroom for the “Rainbow School” in the Tembe area. Pre-school children are currently being prepared for first grade here. The classroom we built for the pre-school class will then be used for this first class. We have known Thulani, the initiator of this school, for two years. Colours for Kids e.V. has already supported his school with small items. Thulani is very committed and absolutely trustworthy. Karin was recently in Tembe and visited the school. Colours for Kids e.V. has donated a printer and paper.
We also want to purchase two containers with windows and doors for the MusaweNkosi organisation in Empangeni. The containers will be used as a food distribution centre and for homework supervision. The area around Empangeni is very poor. Corona has made poverty even worse, as many have lost their jobs. Many families live from hand to mouth and cannot live without support. There is usually only one meal a day. People are frustrated and see no way out. MusaweNkosi wants to offer these people and children a place to go where they can be heard and receive help. We think this project is very good and are happy to be able to help.
